Mr.Wathana and Others specialist colleagues had solidaried and founded an local independent NGOs (called RCEDO:Rural Community and Environment Development Organization) in 1998, and became registered with the Ministry of Interior of Kingdom of Cambodia on 13th July 1998. RCEDO‘s staffs have qualifies skills and experiences in integrated community development activities such as Water/Sanitation, Agriculture production, health care,Home Base Care, community forestry, human rights and democracy. Mission:“Is supporting the rural communities and government department agencies in their effort to meet their needs on local development for improving the living condition, peace, freedom and democracy in Cambodia”.

Development Objective is:
  • Improved the quality of equity life for disadvantaged groups in the selected target areas of Banteay Meanchey and Oddar Meanchey Province.
  • Improved the preservation and renovation of the natural resource Management in the two target provinces (Banteay Meanchey & Oddar Meanchey provinces).
    Strategies
  • Increased the family livelihood and income sources of the target beneficiaries in selected areas of targets provinces.
  • Increased access general health care, HIV/AIDS protection and social support to HIV/AIDS patient in the target provinces.
  • Improved the basic knowledge of local communities on decentralization, good governance, peace and democracy.
  • Improved general knowledge of target communities on the preservation of Natural Resource in the target provinces.
  • Target Areas: There are two provinces are in the Northwest part of Cambodia, bordering Thailand. RCEDO focuses on this region because there was inter-party fighting in this region up until 1997. The inter-party fighting meant the area was not stable or secure enough for the government & development agencies to implement services such as health, education and roads. Hence, until 1997 the region remained extremely isolated, with a few dirty roads, no heath services, no education services, high poverty and high food insecurity. Whilst progress in this area is now progressing rapidly, the level of poverty, isolation, poor health and low education is still extremely high.

Donors: The projects RCEDO has delivered since 1999 have been funded by many government departments and international donors including; Diakonia (Sweden), AusAID, Japan Embassy, World Bank, New Zealand Embassy, Netherlands Embassy, Canada Fund, Ockenden and ZOA Refugee Care.

Aknowledgment: The team at RCEDO are very greatful to all these donors who have supported RCEDO programs and projects. Without thier support, guidance, advice, training and resources none of the above projects could have been possible.

RCEDO also very pleases and welcomes to governments, donors agencies and IO, who want to work and support the orphans vulnerable children(OVC),poor people, disable people and widows in Cambodia through RCEDO project.
