Our approach is based on four pillars:
We work from an integrated community development framework, based on an understanding of the interconnectedness of issues in human development. We have learned from experience that outcomes are more effective and sustainable when we simultaneously address the range of issues that affect peoples lives.
We aim for community empowerment and support communities in their efforts to identify and then address their own development priorities. By strengthening community-based organisations, we build self-reliant communities with the capacity to manage their total development needs for the long term.
We strive to ensure the poorest and most marginalised people are equal and active participants in community development efforts. We especially support widows, orphans, people living with HIV/AIDS, people with disabilities and poorest households. We work with the whole community to ensure these groups are supported and have a voice in community decision making.
We are committed to building partnership with government to achieve outcomes for rural communities. We believe that effective partnerships between civil society and the state are critical to sustaining development efforts for the long term.
